چکیده
Abstract Introduction Intermittent claudication (IC) is a prevalent manifestation of peripheral arterial disease and affects about 3% the UK population. Current guidance for management nonlife limiting IC supervised exercise best medical therapy. Supervised however not readily available across nation has poor recruitment retention rates. Pilot data demonstrated that Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT) effective improving walking distance in patients with IC. This study aims to consider its effectiveness quality life (QoL). Methods In double-blind, sham-controlled, randomised trial, were 1:1 ratio ESWT or sham treatment. The primary endpoint was change physical functioning at 12-week follow-up, as measured by SF-36. Secondary endpoints included changes distances ABPI. Results 138 randomised. group had significantly higher score 12 weeks (Mdn 41 vs 34, z=-2.1, p=0.033). They also longer 125 88, z=-2.9, p=0.004) maximum 179 129, z=-2.4, p=0.013) distances. from baseline 12-weeks greater 51 24, z=-2.8, p<0.01) 63 17, z=-4 distance. No difference observed Conclusion demonstrates safe, well tolerated clinically QoL Take-home message shockwave therapy improves distances, could potentially be used non-invasive adjunct institutions available.

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy for the treatment of lower limb intermittent claudication: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial (the SHOCKWAVE 1 trial)
BACKGROUND Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) has a population prevalence of 4.6% with intermittent claudication (IC) presenting as one of the earliest and most common symptoms. PAD has detrimental effects on patients' walking ability in terms of maximum walking distance (MWD) and pain-free walking distance (PFWD). Research has suggested extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) may induce angioge...
متن کاملExtracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for the Treatment of Interdigital Neuroma: a Randomized, Placebo-controlled, Double-blinded Trial
BACKGROUND Morton’s Neuroma is a common condition, often requiring surgical intervention. The success rate for resolution of symptoms, without complications, is commonly reported to be 85%. Complications can include stump neuroma, adhesive neuritis, and chronic pain syndrome. Endoscopic decompression of the neuroma has been reported but there have been no randomized and blinded studies reported...

Background: Palmoplantar eczema is a common clinical problem involving 2% of the population. There are many treatment modalities for palmoplantar eczema, each with specific local and systemic side effects. Objective: To evaluate methoxsalen bath in the treatment of palmoplantar eczema. Patients and Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial, 60 patients with palmo...
متن کاملChelation therapy for intermittent claudication. A double-blind, randomized, controlled trial.
BACKGROUND The use of repeated intravenous infusions of EDTA, which has become known as "chelation therapy," has been promoted for treating intermittent claudication as well as a wide range of other disorders. Multiple reports of excellent results in large numbers of patients have encouraged the use of this regimen. The lack of well-controlled studies substantiating the benefits of this treatme...
متن کامل5-HT3 antagonist for cognition improvement in schizophrenia: a double blind, placebo-controlled trial
Introduction: Patients with schizophrenia characteristically exhibit cognitive deficits. The level of cognitive impairment is found to predict the functional outcome of the illness more strongly than the severity of positive or negative symptoms. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of ondansetron, a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist as an adjuvant agent in the treatment of chronic...
